We’re getting closer and closer to our launch issue being released (over the course of the last week of May – pop it in the calendar) so we thought we’d give you all a bit of an insight into what you can expect from our features in the very first edition of Double.LL Magazine.
As I’m sure you have picked up by now, we are all about hyper localism – local life, local businesses, local people! So what else could our focus possibly be on other than exactly the above – local everything.
We had our first Double.LL contents meeting in February of this year to discuss who and what we wanted this debut issue to include and we landed on the following.. plus many more but we’ve got to keep a little bit of intrigue haven’t we?
Steve McArdle’s Legacy
Our immediate choice for the main feature and front cover was to chat exclusively with the McArdle family about the late Steve McArdle, the popular and legendary Chirk butcher. Sandra reveals the early years of family life and their business, McArdles of Chirk. This feature celebrates the success that this Chirk family butchers has had since it all began and the legacy this wonderful character left behind.
The Old Cowshed
Focusing on another local legend, Carole Cogan, born and bred in the Ceiriog Valley and known to so many people across the area as one of the most recognised retailers on Oswestry High Street. Along with her lifelong friend and colleague, Alma Pierson, we discuss their new creative partnership that is breathing new life into the old cowshed in Pontfadog that Carole often played in as a child.
John Merrill
Our Contributing Editor, Dave Thomas, speaks with Sheffield-born wood sculptor, John Merrill, about his spectacular creations, which can be seen across the country, and his many achievements since he began working from the Coed Ceiriog yard over 12 years ago. This feature offers a glimpse into John’s creative process and an opportunity to view his extraordinary talent.
We’re very excited to share the above stories with you in less than two months, but for now, we’re getting back to gearing up for our Official Launch Party this Wednesday.. wish us luck!
