Interior – Home Improvements

Spring! Out with the old, in with the new. Ain’t that the truth in the age of Marie Kondo. Double.LL Editor, Holly Payne, talks tidy.

Since Netflix released the show titled ‘Tidying Up with Marie Kondo‘, I must have come across the phrase ‘spark joy’ at least 10 times a day; admittedly mostly across social media than every day conversation. But we’ve all come to realise now that what’s trending on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) overlaps into real life.

I recently looked at my wardrobe and truly thought to myself ‘nope, that no longer sparks joy‘… yes, I said it, albeit in my head, but that simple phrase coined by Marie Kondo has embedded itself into my sub conscience. What did I do? I picked out that particular piece of clothing, along with many others that no longer ‘spark joy’ and put them on eBay to clutter someone else’s wardrobe. I had officially been Kondo’d. You know what, I’d recommend it; it’s liberating.

Spring cleaning is another phrase that has been penetrating our consciousness… followed by a weary sigh I’m sure. This year, I’d like to encourage you to consider bringing in the expertise and services of the hard-working, reliable and trustworthy local tradespeople we’re fortunate to be able to call upon locally to help make it less of a chore.

If you are diving in and making those big changes that undoubtedly require making removal arrangements, you can call Chris at CB’s Loadrunner for van and driver hire. You can get in touch with Chris on either 07812 921109 or 01691 712787.

We all need to be more mindful of our impact on the environment, so how about seeking out furniture and accessories created from recycled materials? Heading up to The Old Cowshed in Dolywern will provide you with an array of sustainable pieces for your home. You will find beautifully designed Weaver Green rugs made exclusively from recycled plastic bottles… but feel like wool! And keep an eye out for John Pierson’s incredible reclaimed wood mirrors for that timeless vintage effect. It may be that the Scandi-inspired, or ‘Nordic Noir’, aesthetic is taking your fancy? Darker palettes for kitchens and bathrooms are becoming increasingly popular across Europe.

If that’s the case, we’d recommend calling Nick at Galione Property Solutions on 01691 712656 or 07956 716420 who is on hand for all your interior needs from decorating to installation. Nick and the team even offer a totally bespoke, personalised designing experience based on your preferences.

Whether you’re doing a whole home revamp or just getting the duster out, home improvements can often be tiresome at the time, but we’ve all experienced that feeling of pride and content once the job is complete. Get stuck in and look forward to the new-found admiration you’ll have for your home. And let local providers spark joy!
